Map of Los Angeles

Check down below at the bottom of the page if you are looking for a map of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is a city that is not just a mere city, it is an iconic place of legend, myth, and dreams that everybody has heard of and has an image of, even if they`ve never been there. Because Los Angeles is the center of the US movie industry and many tv shows and movies are filmed on location there, we`ve all seen L.A. on tv or on the big screen. And we all hear stories about L.A.`s rich and famous, we hear about Hollywood and Beverly Hills, the celebrity lifestyle, and all that stuff.

But for a great many people, L.A. is simply home. It is a city of 3.8 million, and if we include the entire metropolitan area, it is a city of nearly 13 million. That makes it both the second largest city in the US, and the second largest metro area (after New York City in both cases). It is also one of the biggest metro areas in the world.

Los Angeles has a Mediterranean Subtropical climate, with long, warm and dry summers, but with excessive heat above 32 degrees being uncommon. Winters are mildly warm, with temperatures ranging from 7 degrees to 13 degrees at night, and 15 degrees to 23 degrees during the day. For someone like me who grew up in a much cooler climate, that doesn`t sound like winter at all. It sounds like Spring!

Palm Springs Map

A Palm Springs map for your travel reference can be found down below.

Palm Springs, California is a popular desert resort famous for its golf, swimming, tennis, horseback riding, and desert hiking. It is also a popular destination for retirees to relocate to, thanks in large part to the year-round warm climate.

Palm Springs is located inside the Coachella Valley, which is a desert valley surrounded by San Bernardino Mountains to the north, and the Santa Rosa Mountains to the south, the San Jacinto Mountains to the west, and the Little San Bernardino Mountains to the east. The summers are very hot and dry, and the winter months are warm with daily highs generally rising above 20 degrees - sometimes as high as 30. The winter can be cool at night, but normally pleasantly cool. Summer temperatures commonly reach the mid-40s with lows in the 20s or even 30s.

Sacramento Map

Check down below for a useful Sacramento map.

The capital city of the state of California is Sacramento. The city is also the seat of Sacramento County. It is the sixth largest city in California with a population of 466,488. The Sacramento metropolitan area has a population of around 2.5 million, making it the 22nd most populous metro area in the US.

The city is located at the confluence of the American River and the Sacramento River, 581.54 km north of L.A. (ie. 361.35 miles).

Like much of California, Sacramento has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers, and mild wet winters. Freezing temperatures do occur on occasion at night during winter, on average 16 nights a year. On the other hand, 15 days a year see high temperatures reaching beyond 100 degrees F (38 degrees C), and 74 days see high temperatures above 90 degrees (32 degrees C).

Sacramento may not be the exciting metropolis that L.A. or San Francisco are. But it is a pleasant and classy city that makes for an enjoyable stroll and a nice place to live.

Catalina Island Map

At the bottom of the page you can find a Santa Catalina Island map to help you plabn your visit to the Californian island.

Santa Catalina Island, California (which is commonly called just "Catalina Island") lies 35 kilometers, or about 22 miles, off the coast of Los Angeles. It`s a rocky island that rises as high as 639 meters tall (that`s 2,097 feet for you Americans). The island is tiny and measures just 74.98 square miles (194.2 km square miles).

The island is inhabited, though the population is a small one of just 3,696. 3127 of those live in the single official town called Avalon. But even though the local population of the island is very small, it actually gets a lot of tourist visitors - approximately one million of them every year. This is partly thanks to its proximity to Los Angeles, and the "Airport in the Sky" ferries that shuttle passengers over from the coast. Those with more money to burn can actually take a helicopter!

The Catalina Island Conservancy maintains the island`s environment and quality of life. Tourists can engage in hiking and mountain biking activities, though they need a permit from the conservancy. The conservation fees involved keep the number of participants low, allowing for both conservation and enjoyment of the outdoor sports of the area.

California Gold Rush Map

California Gold rush map images. Digging for gold and claiming stakes.

The California Gold Rush began after gold was first discovered there in 1848. 300,000 people flocked to California to get a piece of the gold action, from all over the United States, but also from other countries all over the world.

Few people made substantial financial gains in the gold rush, though a few did become very wealthy. But the Gold Rush was one of the major events that shaped the state of California into what it is today. In response to the influx of "forty-niners" (gold prospectors), infrastructure and the basis of an agricultural industry were laid down.

Here you can download a California Gold Rush map for further detail and information.

Map Of Major Earthquakes In California

The Loma Pietra major Earthquake in San Francisco, California. The US state of California is extremely earthquake-prone due to its location on San Andreas fault line. This fault line forms the tectonic boundary between The Pacific plate and the North American plate. The land of the Pacific plate is moving to the northwest, while the land of the North American plate is moving to the southwest. The rate of movement is about 33-37 milimeters per year. The compression of this motion causes California's earthquakes.

California has frequent earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater, and those of magnitude 7 or greater typically occur in every decade. Luckily most of these are not located near major population centers.

One of the most recent earthquakes to heavily affect a major population center was the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, which caused heavy damage, 63 deaths, and 3757 injuries, and left thousands more homeless.

Here you can choose a map of major earthquakes in California for further information and detail.

Map Of 21 Missions Of California

21 Spanish Missions dot the California coast. The missions of California were Spanish settlements initiated by Spanish King Charles III and built between between 1769 and 1823. The Spanish had already claimed this land over 200 years earlier, but didn't start settling it until they heard of plans by other powers to settle the area. The missions were a way of laying claim to the area.

Missions were chosen as the first settlements as a way of creating a unified system of commerce for the whole area in advance of the founding of towns and cities. The Spanish decided to create farms, each located 1 day's journey away from the next. This would ensure a contiguous trade route along the coast (they were built near the coast to have easy access to future sea ports). But there were not yet any Spanish settlers in the area, so who would farm the lands? Newly converted Native Americas would farm the lands! That's why missions were chosen--to create an obedient labour force while fulfilling the Catholic mission of conversion at the same time (though I suspect the former was a more important factor!).

The missions were disastrous for the local natives, but helped shaped California into the state it is today.

Here are some map of 21 missions of California. I hope they're useful and informative!
