Eastern Europe is not an exactly defined area, because of the overlapping history of parts of Western Europe and Eastern Europe, as well as parts of Asia. The Ural Mountains are generally considered the natural boundary separating Eastern Europe from Asia. The boundary between Eastern and Western Europe is generally defined politically, with the Eastern European countries widely considered to be: Russia (even though much of it is in Asia), Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary. Other countries sometimes included are Turkey (even though 97% of its land mass is in Asia!), the Balkan states, and Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. These however, are normall given separate classifications.
