The nation of France is divided into exactly 27 administrative regions. 22 of those are located within Metropolitan France (ie. in Europe) and the other 5 are located in overseas territories. In addition to those 27, Corsica is technically not a region but is usually considered an additional one.
The median land mass of one of the regions of France is 25,809 km², or 9,965 sq miles. That is comparable to a lot of states in the United States.
